Did you hear? Looks like we have six more weeks of winter.

Well, the weather may be that way and it might be a bit early for warmer wares, but nothing says we can’t bring in the sunshine inside with some spring colors.

Using the Pantone Fashion Color Report 2010 (thanks coco+kelley for the lead), we found a few things that brighten up any table.

The Venini vases may be a bit of a splurge, but the resin napkin rings have just as many colors without quite the investment.  And the yellow tray can make you forget the snow, particularly if it is serving breakfast in bed.  And those Missoni dessert plates, I have been eyeing that pattern for a while.  It is amazing how just one or two little things can punch up the basics.

BlueThanksgivingGourmet

Now that November is here, many thoughts and conversations for the next few weeks will be about Thanksgiving.  The food, the family, the traditions, the naps!

There are so many good things that people expect, there often aren’t many surprises on that Thursday.  And it’s not just the food on the table, but everything around it too.  The decor often evokes fall – reds, oranges, browns, and golds.  Beautiful yes, but…

What about a change?  When looking through the November Gourmet, this picture above* kept jumping out at me.  I love the fresh take of bright turquoise and blues on a Thanksgiving table.  Mixed with the warm golds, it still feels a bit autumnal, definitely bountiful, and I love, love, love!

Below are a few accent pieces that would be a welcome addition to any table, and throughly unexpected this November 26.

BedsideCarafes

I know, I know it is still October and not even Halloween and people are starting talk about the holidays.  Not just “the holidays” which nicely lumps Thanksgiving and Christmas together, but Christmas.   I have seen the commercials already and decorations are starting to come out in NYC.  As a Thanksgiving baby, I usually take personal offense to this, as if by getting started on Christmas too soon, everyone is skipping right over me.  No, not at all self-indulgent!

However, this year, I am going to use this time to get ready.  Not ready for presents and decorations, but for the real meaning of the season.  The parties!!  What?  You thought I meant something a bit more precious and sentimental?  Well parties are time together with family and friends, just with food and lots of toddies!

Here is the question, when you are invited to a party, what do you normally bring:
—–A) Nothing
—–B) Flowers
—–C) Wine

While there is absolutely nothing wrong with options B and C (they are tried-and-true for a reason), its time to step away from your comfort zone a bit.

Bedside-Carafes

One of my favorite hostess gifts is the bedside water carafe.  They are the perfect addition to bedrooms, guest rooms in particular.   And knowing that people often have visitors over the holidays, something like this unexpected thank-you can really be put to use.

There are as many options of these now as there are hosts to give them to – clean or engraved, modern or old fashioned, inexpensive or “many, many thanks”, clear or colored, etc. etc. etc.
