paperlesspostinvite

So I may be a little late to the Paperless Post party, but better late than never.

Paperless Post launched last year and is quickly overtaking the world of email-able invites.  I have never been a huge evite fan instead designing little invites to send via email instead.  Well, no longer. These will be my new go-to for times that dictate an email invite:

  • Want to be eco-friendly?
  • A last minute shin-dig that doesn’t allow time for snail mail?
  • Don’t have mailing addresses for the peeps on your list?
  • Only have out-of-date stamps since the post office ups the postage rate just about every day?
  • Want to save on paper and postage and spend that dime on food?

paperlesspost

For a fraction of the price of paper invites and postage (literally – paperless post is starts at $5/40 invites, and gets exponentially cheaper), but without losing the fun of opening the envelope.

WrappingItAllUp

When it comes to wrapping gifts, I generally prefer solids.  Glossy white, metallics, definitely brown kraft paper –  I think they beat snowmen and reindeer options at the drugstore any day.

Then I usualy add fun ribbons and bows, small ornaments you name it.  Not only do I like the look better, but this option works year ’round – saving time, resources and space!

But here are a few options, that either jazz up my plain packages in a new way, or may even make me rethink the solids…

Thanksgiving thankful cards

Turkey, stuffing, potatoes – check!  Pie, pie, pie – check!  Candles, seating, wine – check!

And then Mom wants everyone to go around the table and say what they are thankful for … please pass more wine, stat! I am not exactly considered shy, but my hands get a bit clammy when everyone has to go around the table.

My vote – reading what others are thankful for.  Have these cards around the living room while everyone is gathering, snacking, drinking, etc. with a few pens on hand. Designate someone (the cousin who keeps trying to invade the kitchen, wanting to help when there  IS NO ROOM) to tell people to fill out the cards and collect them before dinner.

Then pass them back out randomly, and when the time comes, it is much easier to share Uncle Joe’s blessings.

Anonymity – one more thing to be thankful for.

Pumpkin

So not quite a real Oktoberfest, but I think this would make for a great fall get together with friends.  A pumpkin carving – fall beer tasting – sausage eating party.

And to keep it easy, don’t be afraid to ask friends to bring a little something – either a pumpkin to carve or a good fall beer.  Have some sausages grilled up with bunch of accompaniments and keep everyone’s hands free for knives and steins!

For a get together this casual, mailed invitations are not necessary, feel free to jazz up an e-mail version.  But steer clear of evites and don’t forget to bcc: not everyone wants their info out there!

Letters

Letters – where have they gone?  I don’t get many, and I’m sure it has something to do with not sending many either.  Along with seeing people in person, letters and notes are a great way to get together.  They bring a sense of personality that does not come across in an email or text.  Handwritten, personal – wonderful!

With phones and email definitely an everyday part of life, lets face it, “snail mail” has almost gone by the wayside.  But handwritten notes shouldn’t – they are great & old fashioned & your own little party in the mailbox.
